Candy Storage Tips

Tomorrow is Halloween, the night when candy will be collected and consumed! But what about the candy you can’t eat? Here are some candy storage tips to help make the decision to eat the Twix or the Reese’s.

Eat Candy with Nuts 1st – Treats with nuts have a shorter shelf life because nuts go bad faster than the chocolate. Be sure to eat these candies within 6 months unless you freeze them. When frozen, these treats can last up to a year.

Dark Chocolate vs. Milk Chocolate – While each person has their preference, it doesn’t change the fact the dark chocolate can be kept for 1 to 2 year when wrapped in foil. Milk and white chocolate last no more than 10 months. No matter what type of chocolate, these candies should be stored in a cool, dark and dry place.

Recycle & Reuse – While most think of candy as a sweet treat, many forget that these edible treats make great ingredients. Rather than buying chocolate chips, replace them with your chocolates. You can also use them for decorating cupcakes, cakes and ice cream!
